My Bucket List

by etoro

Since we are all cooped up due to Covid-19, I was thinking that there was a life long goal that I needed to start now before my life changes again. So I started to teach myself how to play the guitar. At this stage in my life I am not looking for fame or fortune but I have always enjoyed listening to a good guitarist play. So I decided to buy a cheap electric guitar so I can teach myself to play.

So far I can play a couple of notes but I will keep track of my progress and let you know where I am in my journey to be a decent guitar player (not great) but I will settle for decent. In the meantime I have been listening to all genres of music and going to YouTube and other sites to see if there are videos of persons playing guitar.

For instance Tubi.tv had a documentary of Stevie Ray Vaughan, and it was great since it had some clips of him playing his guitar on stage and it was definitely cool to watch.

I have been watching videos of Albert King, Angus Young, T-Bone Walker, Prince, Eddie Van Halen, Lightning Hopkins, Robert Johnson, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Gales, Samantha Fish, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Elmore James, Joe Walsh, Frank Zappa, Carlos Santana, Larkin Poe, Gary Clark Jr., Joe Bonamassa, and the list actually just continues.

What it has taught me is perseverance, since many of these artists practice their craft on an ongoing basis and they love what they do. It’s a lot like marketing and developing good marketing campaigns, you have to continue to practice, love what you do, and not be afraid to learn new chords or riffs. The end goal is to become good at what you do. So hopefully my guitar playing will be as solid as some of the marketing campaigns I have been privileged to be part of.

So just to let you know that I am a novice and hopefully watching all these great guitarist play, some of it will rub off on me.

Sincerely,

Eric
